Sarlatis a town in the Dordogne department, more precisely located between the Dordogne Valley and the Vézère Valley in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. After its merger with the town of Canéda in 1965, Sarlat officially became Sarlat-la-Canéda, but continues to be called Sarlat by its inhabitants and visitors.

The town was built in the 12ᵉ century around a Benedictine abbey and became an episcopal city in the 14ᵉ century. When you visit Sarlat, you will be seduced by its diversity of places to visit.

  • Saint-Sacerdos Cathedral

This is an ancient abbey built between the 12ᵉ and 17ᵉ centuries, topped by a bulbous bell tower that can be seen from afar. It was dedicated to Sacerdos de Limoges and has animpressive swallow’s nest organ. The Lantern of the Dead

This is one of the most remarkable buildings in Sarlat. In the Renaissance style, it contains furniture and period costumes typical of the Sarlat bourgeoisie of the 17ᵉ century. Transformed into a museum, it contains a very fascinating cabinet of curiosities.

The architect Jean Nouvel built the current covered market in this historic building and installed the famous panoramic lift in its bell tower, which offers a breathtaking view of the city.
